Meet the Tipton family




I (Kirsten) have known Sarah since we were in grade school. We have had some great times over the years and I was thrilled to pieces when she agreed to let me photograph her family.

I held this guy for the first time when he was 9 hours old. He's now 13!




She looks just like her mom.

Photo Tip for the week

A good photographer is always looking at the composition of his picture. When I shoot, I quickly glance at the subject to make sure that clothes are where they need to be, hair is not out of place, focus is on eyes, etc. I rarely notice the subject as a whole until after I'm finished editing the picture. At that point I can enjoy the picture and subject.

After a quick once over of the subject I'm looking at composition of the picture. I try to remember, "what is this picture for?". Will it be used in a magazine, framed on the wall,or is it to be used in a collection with other pieces? Next, take a look at the background and make sure that all hands and feet are inside the frame.



Notice in this picture, Aaliyah's foot was outside the frame. No big deal right? Just zoom out and crop later right? Wrong! We did this shoot for a 20x30 print of Aaliyah for a project, so we needed as much information in the picture as possible without cropping it (we will talk about this next week). Also, if you look on the wall to the right, you will see a water bottle on top of the wall.

So remember what your shooting for and make sure there are no distractions or cut off limbs. Please let us know if you appreciate this post and share with your friends.

Playful Portrait Parties are here! Host a party, invite your friends and their children, get amazing and unique portraits of your children in their natural state. Every party has a theme such as "A Day at the Playground" or "Cowboys/Cowgirls" and will last approximately one hour.
As a host, you receive your session fee and one 11x14 print for FREE!! Your guests pay $55 (for one child, $25 each additional child) to cover the photographer's time and minimal expenses (such as props). Andrea

We headed out to Centennial Park on Sat. to grab some shots of Andrea and her cute little Italian Greyhounds. It was so hot and by the time we were done, one poor puppy was worn out (see last picture). Thanks, Andrea, for a great session!
